Simplii Financial Launches New Account and Pilot Features

Simplii Financial has announced the rollout of a new account offering called the Simplii Account. As part of this launch, the digital lender is piloting a bank‑account‑folders feature designed to help customers organise their money more intuitively.

Bank Account Folders Give Users Control

The folders tool lets users create custom categories within the mobile app with just a few clicks. Clients can allocate incoming paycheques to different folders automatically, making it easier to earmark cash for bills, vacations, or emergency savings. Simplii says the aim is to reduce the mental load that often comes with managing finances.

Payment Backup Aims to Prevent Fees

Alongside the folders pilot, Simplii is testing a payment backup function. This feature will automatically cover certain transactions when balances run low, thereby lowering the chance of insufficient‑funds fees. The company plans to evaluate the pilot before a broader release.

Future Enhancements Include Shared Folders

Looking ahead, Simplii intends to roll out additional capabilities, such as the ability to share folders with family members or housemates. This would simplify the handling of shared expenses like rent or utilities.

Partnership Expands Investment Options

Simplii has also teamed up with CIBC Investor’s Edge. Through this partnership, customers can invest directly while keeping their funds accessible from their Simplii account, bridging everyday banking with investment activities.

About Simplii Financial

Simplii Financial is the direct‑banking brand owned by CIBC. It emerged in 2017 after CIBC and Loblaw Cos. Ltd. ended their nearly two‑decade President’s Choice Financial partnership. Today, Simplii serves more than two million clients and manages everyday banking products such as savings, chequing, registered accounts, and mortgages.

Leadership Emphasises Intentional Innovation

Atanaska Novakova, head of Simplii Financial, explained that the company is being deliberate about new features. She noted that Simplii will not chase fleeting trends or speculative products like prediction markets, focusing instead on delivering genuine value and control to its users.

Canadians’ Perspective on Prediction Markets

A recent CIBC‑commissioned poll by Ipsos sheds light on how Canadians view prediction markets. Conducted on April 8‑9 with 1,001 respondents, the survey found that 74 % consider prediction markets more akin to gambling than investing. Furthermore, 57 % said such markets should not be offered on investment platforms.
